A Little About Me…
You may be shocked to know that I've struggled with my weight too.
I lost and gained the same 10-20 pounds too many times to count from the age of 17 to 28. I’ve tried ever diet out there. I even struggled with eating disorders back in high school, college and my early years as a personal trainer. It seemed the only way to lose weight for a period of time was to restrict down to 500 calories -which was super hard to do and not healthy!
I knew I wanted to help people look and feel their best. I’ve always been excited and passionate about health and nutrition. Being a personal trainer made me really feel the pressure to 'look the part', since I hadn’t found anything that would keep the weight off that's when the hard core yo-yo dieting happened. During that time, I either felt great and full of confidence at my goal or I was feeling the guilt and shame of gaining it back and hiding out in baggy and dark colored clothes. I actually didn’t go out much because I didn't want to be seen and a lot of times, nothing in my closet fit.
I competed in a few NPC competitions where I learned a ton about fat loss …and unfortunately I was obsessively dieting and killing myself in the gym to do it. After my second competition I gained 15 pounds in 2 weeks and knew I that had to stop. It was the last straw for me. I truly believe that if I hadn’t have learned what I know now I’d be up to170 pounds today at the pace I was going.
Instead, I learned how to see results of the right way and to work with my metabolism. I haven’t dieted for over 10 years now and easily maintain my weight around 120 pounds now!
Today, I am no longer mentally consumed with everything I put in my mouth or starting a diet every Monday. I actually don’t even worry about what I eat anymore, which is so mentally freeing. I eat what makes me feel good and I probably have around 1800 calories a day.
I’ve said goodbye to that vicious ‘restrict/ binge- then feel guilty and uncomfortable because my clothes don’t fit’ cycle.
Thank God because I love to travel! I love good food, wine, margaritas and socializing with my family and friends. It was important to me to figure the weight thing out so I could enjoy all of the things I love and feel good about the way I looked!
I’m so grateful I went through all of these experiences and tried all of those diets because I know what works, what doesn’t and most importantly how the body responds so I can help others navigate them. I pretty much know what will happen along the way depending on what my clients are doing or have done, which is pretty awesome!
